Song Writing / Beat Making
Participants work together with Ben to create music and write lyrics using a laptop computer, a keyboard with MIDI technology, a pen, paper, and a microphone. Ages 8+, groups of up to 15.
Music / Movement
Participants play a variety of percussion instruments and use different colored scarves while following simple directions from Ben's voice and the rhythms of Ben's drum. Ages 2 - 10, groups of up to 20 people.
Drum Circle / Percussion Exploration
Participants learn about various percussion instruments including their origins, playing techniques, and rhythms. Playing happens as a whole group, with opportunities for each individual to play as a soloist. Ages 6 +, groups of up to 25.
Percussion Ensemble
Conducted in a concert percussion setting, with an Afro-Brazilian or Afro-Cuban focus, or using non-traditional instruments like buckets or chairs, Ben leads a group in learning the technique, instruments, rhythms, and song structures. Focus is on learning a song or song structure and performing with a high degree of accuracy. Ages 12+, groups of up to 15.
